  • I remember playing that my senior year at PHS.. back in 2002? I wonder if the same reaction from the front row happened at the beginning of the piece this year.. :)

  • It did! Just not on this day.

  • WAAAAY too fast

  • Wonderful job. I think 140BPM is too fast and it takes away the musicality of this piece. And you can't enjoy some of the amazing things that are happening as well at that fast tempo. I think it's sounds really great at 132 BPM

This is such a great band, though. It's really great.

  • @Elite862 I Agree mayne, Sure it was a lil fast, but Pihi Bands are among theeeee best in the country. I couldn't find a single outta tune note in the piece, i could find some rushy spots but hey, for all we know there coulda been a time restraint n they had to hurry it up.

But yea, Pioneer.. straight up just so persistent in quality.

  • we played it with our orchestra, too. And i think it's really to fast.

    but difficult and nice;)

  • I just listened to a recording of this today.. I think it sounds better a tad slower

  • it is kinda frantic....i performed this a few years ago...despite the tempo marking, it sounds a bit better slowed down just a hare....its really good, though.

  • I think this piece should have been a jazz piece. If not, then the articulation in some spots could be more jazzy.

  • Too rushed and frantic.

  • This is one of my favorite pieces for band - potentially my favorite. It was great for a high school group, but not so great when you compare it to other bands who play all sorts of music at this level. It was very abrasive and all over the place. It just sounded frantic most of the time.

That being said, Pi High's band still blows most out of the water, hands down.
