A video complilation showing the devastation caused by hurricane Rita which struck the Gulf coast on the 24th of September, 2005. This hurricane completed destroyed dozens of small towns along the Southwest coast of Louisiana. These towns have not received the media attention because of the damage done to New Orleans as a result of hurricane Katrina a few weeks prior to Rita's landfall. The cajun way of life in Grand Chenier, Cameron, Creole, Holly Beach and dozens of other small towns has been completely destroyed along with every home in these areas. This video features the music of a local live group headed by musician Abe Manuel. The group, Honky Tonk Band, plays music locally and most members hail from Cameron Parish. They do live shows in the area and their album is available at stores in Cameron and Calcasieu Parish (like Chessons store near Grand Lake).

  • Thanks for sharing this with us. I assume you are a Vincent from Grand Chenier? I'm a McCall from Grand Chenier.

  • I am a Vincent from Grand Chenier, kinda. My dad is Ron Vincent and my brother is John Vincent. I lived in Grand Chenier for a year in the early eighties but lived with my mom in Oklahoma the rest of the time. I just got back from visiting my family down there and was surprised at the amount of destruction seeing it first hand.

  • @gooberwiggins holly beach is looking good yeah

  • hackberry reboks......yeah

  • These small towns and many on the Texas coast did not get much attention at all. Why? Because unlike the thousands in New Orleans who sat around and cried until someone came and helped them, these tough folks helped each other and themselves and did the majority of their own clean up.

If I was in need of help, I would choose 10 folks from SW Louisiana over the entire population of New Orleans.

  • 5 Stars. Great song!! Hadnt heard that one yet. From your neighbor just across the Texas border. Thats exactly what we had left after Rita "the dog and the children" Its a damn shame that now you could write another one called "Hurricane Men!" After Gus and Ike. UGH!!! Lets hope the storms leave us alone for a while, whatever their gender. ; )

  • hay hay hay. ;D 5
