The first part of a short (20 minute) webcast lecture on the conservative reaction to the French Revolution at the Congress of Vienna. It concentrates on the career of Castleraegh and Wellington, the last Tory prime minister of England (strictly speaking) before a long period of Liberal political domination in England and the re-emergence of the Tory Party as Disraeli's Conservative party later in the century. The lecture also features Shelley's poem The Mask of Anarchy which is a powerful denunciation of Tory repression and reaction and a call for a new English revolution.
