If I'm not mistaken, Kathy was inspired to write this song because of her husband's grandparents.

I lost my wife of 39 years 10 weeks ago to Alzheimers. An illness I would not wish on my worst enemy. This song made me cry. I love Kathy Mattea's voice. A wonderful song.

After more than half a century of marriage my friend and his wife had to be in separate nursing homes. He recently died, and his wife was brought to the funeral home for the service. Her wheelchair was right up against the coffin, and she spent the entire funeral service looking at her husband's face.

I looked at her, and could hear Kathy Mattea singing this song.

this is one of the most poignant love songs I have ever heard, and whisperingwind, it reminded me of camping at Sugargrove with my wife in the West Virginia Mountains, gonna do it again, make memories we'll never forget.
