This Softshell Turtle was very large compared to the others that I have seen over the years. The shell length was at least 14 inches but I would say closer to 16 if I had to guess. I did not have a measuring tape but I did lay my hat on the ground next to the turtle in order to compare lengths. It is rare to see Softshell Turtles completely out of the water, especially in the hot Sun. I am guessing that it did or was going to lay eggs. The turtle probably went the wrong direction after laying the eggs and got stuck behind thick bushes, blocking its exit to the water. These turtles don't last long on land since they dry up quickly and have no protection from predators. I moved it next to the water at an opening, some distance down the lake. This location was in Lawrenceburg Indiana.
That's cool
