a great tune from 1930 written by Johnny Green. A romantic song filled with every bit of emotion, covered as only Billy Eckstine can. Enjoy

  • This isn't "a cover", that term didn't exist when this was recorded. This song, like others from the 20s-early 50s are "standards" , which many, many singers performed. The term "cover" is a by-product of the rock-folk singer-songwriter phenomonon, the idea that the only "legitimate" version of a song is the inital version by the singer-songwriter.

  • @56Packman Groovy, Packman. Thanks for the history lesson.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! Billy was my dad's favourite male singer. He saw Mr. Eckstein live a couple of times in the 1950s and had quite a few of his songs on 78s which I have inherited! I often think of my dad and finding this brought back many happy memories! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

  • Tangfast... Initially ,i thought this post did not make it....copyright laws and all. Im suprised to see it went through. I enjoy sharing my music , but more than that, I am thrilled to hear about people's memories and how happy it makes them. You are more than welcome.

  • @56Packman... Well said This modern nonsense results in the ridiculous practice of asking permission of the composer, or original performer to 'cover' a song. Instead of feeling good that another artist would want to 'cover' your work, and be content with pocketing the 'performance rights' royalties.

Thanks for this post of course. Great to hear the 'man' again.

  • one of the best renditions ever. this man can SING.

  • I used to have a yellow label MGM 78 copy of this song, no strings, as well as an MGM 45 of Mood Indigo. I wore them out.

  • Swell , Mr. B was our favorite in high school , he was hip.

  • @peetie25 saw him in the 50's famous shirt collar. wonderful voice
