First test of my do-it-yourself ambilight. This is a version that involves very little soldering: Digital RGB-LED stripes attached to the sedu-board, which is controlled by boblight running on Ubuntu 11.10 (video played by xbmc).

There is still some fine-tuning to do: The position of some LEDs is still off and the colors are shifted to blue. I have to compensate this in software. Also I am using only 2m of LED strips (= 64 individually controlable RGB-LEDs) and since the LEDs cannot simply be redistributed, the edges are a not as illuminated as I'd like them to be. But just like the furniture which is too close to the left, I will probably not do much about it.

  • congrats! what stripe are You using?

  • @mezofold I bought them along with the SEDU-Board from led-studien.de, because they sell the board as an assembled box and I wanted to avoid as much soldering as I could... ;)

Unfortunately, this page seems to be available in German only and I could not find a definite brand or type. They seem to use 5050 RGB SMD-LEDs and there is "LED ZG16RGB-V3" printed on them... Not sure if this helps...
