Secular candidate wins Jerusalem mayor race - 12 Nov 08

A secular Jewish businessman is set to become the next mayor of Jerusalem.

Nir Barkat won over 50 per cent of the vote in local elections, bringing an end to five years of ultra-orthodox Jewish control.

Al-Jazeera English is sooo White & becoming increasingly so day by day. It's like Franz Fanon's concept of the "'Black Skin', White Masks" phenomenon. I'm afraid you misplace your hopes. All the zionist leaders are secularists From Hertzel to Ben Gurion all the way down to Ariel Sharon, Olmert and the rest of the Gang. Zionism, an ideology that calls for the expulsion, dispossession, domination of the native Palestinians as well as the policy of apartheid and cantonization of the remaining Palestinians who can't be forced to leave, is an ultra nationalist ideology and not a religious one.
