I might be wrong but when a zen master hits a student with the stick on the shoulder (which is a common practice in retreats in Japan) it's not because of keeping the student alert but it's a way to eventually frustrate the mind of the "seeker" so that eventually the mind just gets fed up with not finding anything and gives up (so to speak).
@ReefFrog And yes, there is no seeker or a trap. Or rather this "thing" within which the seeker, the luring and the trap seem to happen can't be said to exist or not exist. And all this is "this" when it is this and it's "that" when it's that. And all this is only words, everything is only as it is.
I'd say the function of talking about reaching some goal is to lure the seeker in a trap and eventually build up the frustration of not finding that which is thought tobe findable. That's how this particular, seeming unfolding goes between the so-called masters and the disciples.
So, if you have a message you're a teacher and if you're a teacher then you're not talking about non duality. I do agree we have no say about when we are liberated, so it is a waste of energy looking for it.

I don't think Tony had the right to criticize eckhart. If it wasn't for eckhart I wouldn't be watching this right now. Or so it appears anyway.
