The Illusionist Trailer

The Illusionist is one of a dying breed of stage entertainers. With emerging rock stars stealing his thunder, he is forced to accept increasingly obscure assignments in fringe theatres, at garden parties and in bars and cafés. However, whilst performing in a village pub off the west coast of Scotland, he encounters Alice, an innocent young girl, who will change his life forever.

Watching his performance to the excited villagers who are celebrating the arrival of electricity to their remote island, Alice becomes awestruck by our hero and believes his tricks are real magic. Following him to Edinburgh, she keeps his home while he goes to work in a small local theatre. Enchanted by her enthusiasm for his act, he rewards her with increasingly lavish gifts he has 'conjured' into existence. Desperate not to disappoint her, he cannot bring himself to reveal that magic does not exist and that buying these gifts is driving him to ruin...

The film is not in any language, particularly - it's close to a silent movie, with occasional words in a variety of languages, some of them invented. The speaking of any language, or none at all, will not detract from your enjoyment of the film - in much the same way that not understanding the made up language of Sigur Ros' lyrics will not diminish your enjoyment of their music.

well first off.. it's actually hand drawn.. I'm sure toy story 3 is great and all, actually pixar is one of my favorite companies.. nothing gives you the right to make worthless comments.. I'm one step closer to arthritis now, because of you..

FINALLY saw this. I'm into animation and I sincerely respected this as not only an animated film, but a film in general. As for the whole issue of this not winning Best Animated Film with the Academy...yeah, I do agree. Then again, I was that so-called "asshole" (among other things) who thought 'How to Train Your Dragon' was very deserving of that title at the time, that being due to its incredible achievements as a CG animated film in 3-D. I look for those sorts of breakthroughs.
