Cisco Systems (CSCO) today announced that it has plans to acquire newScale, a privately-held software provider based in San Mateo, Calif., that enables commercial and enterprise customers to initiate the provisioning of their own systems and infrastructure on an as-needed basis.
According to CSCO, the acquisition of newScale will allow the company to accelerate its deployment of cloud services through a service catalog and self-service portal so that its customers can easily manage their IT infrastructures.
Financial terms of the transaction are undisclosed. The acquisition is subject to various standard closing conditions and is expected to be complete in the second half of CSCO's fiscal year 2011. The newScale team will be integrated into CSCO's Advanced Services organization upon the close of the acquisition.
Shares are up 1.20% to $17.33.
