I see no fault in the HBO movie & like the fact that they waited until Little Edie passed because as she herself stated.No one could play me." I have fallen in love with the ladies & my heart goes out to Little Edie for the dreams she never got to pursue.I find myself wondering what her life would have been like had she not gone back to Grey Gardens at her mother's request...it is sad how many times we hear her say I got to get out of this place" & "I didn't want to come back but mother made me"

I think Drew was the only choice for the part as well as Jessica. Both of them nailed the parts. It's almost impossible to tell them apart!!

I agree! She is a great actress! Riding in Cars with Boys would be a big NOTHING movie without her! She made it Lovable!!!

She really did capture Edie's accent , tone and inflections. Esp. at the very end - after the credits: "No animals were harmed in the making of this movie."

Noone said anything about her only being able to do comedy. I do, however, think that as good of an actress as she is, she is the same in every movie as far as her voice inflections and mannerisms. She was great in Grey Gardens as young Edie, but she couldn't pull it off as an older, more eccentric Edie.

I completely agree with you! Rene would have been a beautiful Little Edie! I feel like Drew Barrymore isn't a strong enough actress. There were some lines in the movie that killed me when she spoke them.

Actually, I read that they were paid $10k ($5k each) to do the documentary, which for 30 years ago is pretty fair. Also, the Maysles financed the film themselves and claimed it cost 500 million dollars to make so they claim they never actually made any $ off it. I don't get why everyone looks at the Beales like they are victims; they chose to stay at Grey Gardens knowing they couldn't afford it, never tried to get a job or keep the house clean, epsecially with all those cats everywhere.
