McLemore Avenue--inspired by Hammond organ instrumental groups like Booker T. & the MGs, the Meters, Jimmy Smith, and Medeski, Martin & Wood--blends elements of the Stax sound, southern soul, groove, funk, and jazz with an original sound that is unique to Austin, Texas.
They are performing the Booker T & the MGs hit "Hip-Hug-Her" live at Club de Ville in Austin, Texas.
The Band:
Patrick Benfield (Nord C1 Leslie 3300)
Landis Armstrong (Fender Stratocaster)
Chris Johnson (Bass)
Kevin Pearson (Drums)
John Bush (Percussion)
McLemore Avenue has also appeared as the backing band for Swamp Dogg (aka Jerry Williams).
You can also see the members of the band in other notable groups:
Landis: The Small Stars and the Puala Neslon Band.
Chris: Paula Nelson Band, Roky Erickson and the Explosives, and the Freddie Steady Five.
Kevin Remme: The Paula Nelson Band, Gnappy
John Bush: Edie Brickell & New Bohemians
You guys basically nail it. I wish the drums were less busy (too much funk ghosting/fills compared to the original) but whatever still awesome.
