Mr Lockridge disappears after a play rehearsal, still dressed at the Mad Hatter. Ellery is at Lockridge's house for the weekend and when he wakes up the next morning, Lockridge is missing. Ellery and the other guests try to find him and end up drugged overnight. The next day mysterious objects, from Alice in Wonderland show up addressed to the guests. The poor train conductor overhears Ellery, twice, talking very casually about murder.
The irony of it isthat if this show had been successful, the world probably wouldn't have murder, she wrote. The writer for EQ said it on the dvd.

It's too bad this show didn't last. It was a favorite back in the day.

@MisterApol Actually, it was only one season, from Sept. 1975 to April 1976. That's one season in the world of TV.

Great adaptions. wish I could remember the name of the red read with the holder, she was great. something you never see anymore: a "good" girl using a holder.

Wow.....
Rhonda Fleming has some perky boobies even for someone in their 50's-60's at that point.

I read the short story on which this episode was based. The scriptwriters followed it faithfully. This was one of the best of a great series of episodes.
