And do I need to root my device to unlock it?

@chaingang39383 No if your country/provider supports GSM , then you can't use their network, its a different technology. If your provider does use CDMA that doesn't mean you can use it, I haven't seen a case where someone using a US Xoom in a different CDMA network. So right now I don't think its possible. Sorry for the confusion, and I'll keep you posted if i see anything.

@sleeplessninjas if I buy a xoom 3G  from US,will I need to unlock it to use it with another carrier?

@chaingang39383 I don't think so. Especially since the US version is CDMA and most other countries uses GSM as 3G

@ZoracKy Never seen that happen, I have about 3 hours of Xoom footage here, not that you have to watch it all but if you did you will see this never occurs. Its definitely a manufacturer defect.
