How can anyone say Lemieux was the better player? Obviously you guys can't realize Gretzky had the most goals and assists and points in the history of the sport.And he wasn't a fighter he played the sport for what is was made for not to get into peoples faces. Not Gordie Howe Mario Lemieux Dave Andreychuk Steve Yzerman NONE will ever be better then The Great One.

You have a point there. I mean 61 records you cant open your mouth to that. His stuff will never be broken. 50 in 39 wayne grtzky himself wouldnt even be able to break that haha. But With Lemeiux I look past the career stat numbers. Yeah Gretzky has more assists than anyone has points. But Lemeiux i think at one point had a higher point average. Gretzky had Messier too keep that in mind. Yeah Lemeiux had Jagr but Mario was the guy to set up Jagr. Both had other legends playin with them as well.

Both players had great teams around them at one point or another during their careers. Gretzky is a great play maker and has incredible skill. That said, my vote is for Mario. The fact that he was injured so badly as early as the 92-93 season, and throughout his entire career there after is something you can't overlook. He had to have a trainer tie his skates for a long time. His production still rivals Gretzky's. I honestly think healthy Lemeiux would at least have matched a lot of Gretzky's #s

mario lemieux hands down, gretzky was surrounded by hall of famers the bulk of his career while mario was a one man show for a long time, no one could do the things mario did on the ice

if wayne gretzky didnt get traded from edmonton he would have 5 more cups and 4 more scoring titles,3200 + points, mario wouldnt have any cups and btw mario never won a cup without jagr...this is how stupid most lemieux supporters sound..if the stats dont prove it the maybe the 10 mvps vs 3,the 9 vs 6 art ross, the 4 cups and two other finals vs 2 cups for mario the 4 canada cup victories which he dominated vs 1 for mario. So yeah if you ignore their careers lemieux is better.....

Greatzky is greater. Lemieux is better. If Lemieux had been healthy he would be the NHL all time leading goal scorer and points leader but it just wasn't meant to be.

@coolbeans701 you're stupid...Before lemieux came back in 2000 he had a WAY higher points per game ratio then gretzky and to stay in the facts, lemieux had no good players with him until 1990 while gretzky had Kurri, Coffey, Messier and I don't feel like naming the others so just face the facts Lemieux > Gretzky anytime just watch the highlight videos, gretzky was shooting, lemieux was deking the 5 players before scoring a magnificent goal...stfu idiot.

Lemieux cause he had skill an excellent passer and never gave up Gretzky was good but he was more of a passer and had a good team to back him up... Lemieux did not have such a good team to back him up

EVERYONE-PLEASE LISTEN. Who was better in tier prime? Lemieux for SURE. The MOST talented player ever-the most natural goal scorer-scored 5 goals in a game in 5 different ways! That will NEVER be done again-and did this all and much more with a FAR worse team than Gretzky,AND Mario did most of it while batteling a bad back along with beating cancer!! Now,Gretzky actually stayed healthy and played longer but from 88-97 there was NO ONE better than Lemieux. rick 1servicecity@gmail.com
