In what is known to be the only known footage by both myself, and the author, of a UNION PACIFIC RoadRailer train, UP 6071 (SD60) heads south past the Mt. Vernon dispatchers office with 26 Trailers.

The Union Pacific Road-Railer was a shortlived venture into the Road-Railer market, witha Chicago-Texas train. The service started in May, 1988, a few weeks before this video was shot, and ended in July, 1989. Most of the trailers were sold to Triple Crown, and you can still see them, as they still say "We Can Handle It" on the trailers.

  • Wow. Thats before UP needed ditch lights

  • What type or horn is this?

  • That is a nice horn! True Union Pacfic sound, Not those crap for sound K3LAs on EVERY SINGLE LOCMOTIVE THEY HAVE!!

  • WOW! old school AND rare......5 stars!

  • Wow! I never knew that UP had roadrailer service.

  • Cool catch!

  • Why is it no other railroad can make roadrailers work other than NS?

    It really makes no sense.

  • 5***** and a fav on this rare classic footage. I never knew that the UP had offered roadrailer service at one time. I railfanned Mt. Vernon once in 2004, and of course times have changed, although UP still runs through there, you see a lot more action on the NS than the UP line.

  • How about that horn!
