Main Points
* Currently, Internet service providers are not held liable for the actions of their customers. ACTA will make ISPs responsible for enforcement of the new legal framework put forth. They will have to police copyright on user-contributed material. This could potentially put an end to sites that depend on such content (Youtube, Flickr, Blogger) due to the impossibility of monitoring the amount of data involved for infringing materials. The only practical option for the ISP would be to block access entirely. * ISPs will be asked to take a 'three strikes' approach, and will have to disconnect users that have been accused of copyright infringements three times, as will be required by law. The user will be disconnected without trial, an opportunity to defend themselves, or even any hard evidence. * The whole world must adopt US-style "notice-and-takedown" rules that require ISPs to remove any material that is claimed to be infringing, without evidence or trial. This has proved a disaster in the US and other countries, where it provides an easy method of censoring certain people and their websites -- just by claiming a copyright violation. * Stronger laws about breaking DRM measures will be brought into effect, even if you have a legitimate reason to be doing so.

· ACTA would bring in policies affecting everyone in America. The provisions in it support and encourage your ISP to in essence spy on you.

· Obama is a big supporter of this. Even when the EU had rejected a draft of the proposal, Obama was still in favor of it, going so far as to consider a "3 strikes you're out" policy for copyright infringement. The problem with this is that you could be doing something like putting the files on the CD you bought onto your iPod and bam you're a criminal for copyright infringement. You don't have a chance to tell people what you did was lawful; they just say you're a criminal and you are.

· Another problem is the increase in costs of ISP's, which will raise the costs for the consumer. Don't you already pay enough for your internet connection? How can your ISP justify raising its costs, monitoring your internet usage and not telling you anything about just so they might catch a few more copyright infringers?

· The ACTA is effectively putting assuming everyone who uses the internet is using it for copyright infringement, and wants to put YOU into the same category as someone who actually does use it to distribute copyrighted material. I don't agree with copyright infringement, but at the same time I'm not willing, and I don't think a lot of people are, to sacrifice my right to privacy in some shlock plan to maybe, just maybe, catch a few guys.

· And finally, if the ACTA is so great and the in the interest of the nation, why is it so secretive? How come every time someone tries to find out about it all they get to see is the watered down, heavily edited draft and press releases that the government throws to the public like it was tossing a bone to a dog? If the ACTA is as good as it says, why can't we know more about it?

· More respect for the American citizens, less secrecy and more openness about what the ACTA really plans on doing.

  • This is an agreement promoted by International Jews. They are angry that millions of people are pirating software, movies, n music produced by companies owned by Jews. Jews completely dominate the movie industry, public media, our banks, the US Fed Reserve Banks, television, n many others. I encourage as many people as possible, around the world, to think about the damage that Jews have done to every country. They are not content to be rich, they want to RULE us like slaves! Boycott Schitarel!

  • I used youtube to revisit some of the shows that haven't aired in ages just to kill time and relax, now it's getting to be where the second segment every 20 year old program is being butchered. 50 year old movies that haven't played on the air in ten years are even being yanked. You know, fan fiction is improving everyday and tech is improving ind. artist performances, The big boys are eventually going to get caught holding their copyrights and wishing they played their cards differently
