Determination of the approximate enthalpy change of combustion of methane using average bond energy terms.
This method gives an estimate of the reaction's enthalpy change. For example, C-H bonds appear in many differnt compounds. The surrounding groups can influence the strength of bonds. Chemists have assigned an average bond energy to each bond to allow them to be used to estimate enthalpy changes for reactions.
To find a really exothermic reaction one wants a reaction where the reactants have relatively weak bonds and the products relatively strong bonds.
Good looking out homie.

The bond enthalpy of C=O is -799kJ :) not -743kJ. Otherwise it helped me a lot thank you. The explanation was very clear

@youarepwned Out of curiosity, do you know if teachers have tenure in Britain?
jesuslover037 1 year ago
Thank you sir! This is proof that British folks make better teachers than American ones!
(No offense to my teacher though; he's pretty cool too)

the enthalpy of combustion is when 1 mole of a substance is completely burnt with oxygen under standard conditions, all reactants and products must be in their standerd states.
;) ive been revising thanks for the vid works well..
