I thought their cross communication was excellent. Gould doesn't dominate; he doesn't accompany, either. This is synthesis of two soloists working together for a wonderful performance. Gould does a wonderful job here, supporting when needed, and from memory. I'm a violinist, and I know for a fact that this sonata is much more demanding for the pianist, because every first rate pianist I've hired has told me as much. For the fiddler, as long as you can vibrate throughout, it's quite manageable.

I'm almost in tears - what artists! Yes : Gould can dominate but Shumsky see that he dos not. The technical brilliance of both players, Gould's clear sound and Shumsky's smooth bowing and intonation plus the tone and colours - amazing! And both players have learned the works by heart : young players please learn the lesson.

I have heard it before with Ginette Neveu,Kogan,
but here with Shumsky is Really special,it's not becoming ..heavy and born to listen...Wonderfull and thank you for download it!

Jaysus, what a treat. THANK YOU! My two favorite performers. Gould is God and Shumsky really kicks butt with this performance.

@birdjohansson dear sir, im afraid you' re mistaken in calling it a duo. this particular piece is most certainly a sonata for violin and piano. there sonatas in which the piano part is seen to be forwarded - as the mozart sonatas- but one can say piano accompaniment. there is nothing wrong calling it that way, even the composers do that. the piano, should not necessarily be seen as the greatest, just because you like piano more, or so.

@paganviodio Sorry for beeing a stickler, but I hate when people call the piano part accompanyment! The instruments are equally importent. It´s a duo. But I agree, it´s amazing. Even more since Shumsky also play by memory.

do i see it right, does glenn play the strauss sonata piano part by memory?...i never saw that...that the pianist plays the accompanyment playing by memory...
