It's a different story in Scotland, there just isn't that kind of money. Ibrox holds about 50,000, but most of the seats are taken by season ticket holders for a fair price, and it guarantees the cash flow for Rangers. Their are some biggish teams like Hearts and Aberdeen, but nobody has challenged Rangers and Celtic for the League in years. A different story with the Cups though ! But the lack of constant top class opposition is definitely a major disadvantage in Europe.

@roddy76to86 I have 2 say, as much as I enjoy a good match. I don't feel the same way about football I used 2. My mate reckons it started 2 go downhill around the time shirt sponsorship 1st appeared. I reckon he might have a point. U know, when I 1st started going 2 chelsea, I'd sometimes go to 3 matches a week. I was on a YTS!
Its not just the expense tho, i feel like football and other major sporting events are used as a decoy to divert our attention from far more important matters.

Well one would hope things have improved since then. In Glasgow of course it's your religion that counts, not your colour ! Rangers (as have Celtic) have been making big efforts to clamp down on sectarianism. Ibrox is a good place to go, and they have a family enclosure. The main problem that Rangers have are with their away support, many of whom are Protestant bigots over from Northern Ireland. These were mainly the arseholes that caused all that trouble in Manchester.

@roddy76to86 Yeah that sounds familiar! I know football supporters r supposed 2 stay loyal but I stopped going 2 Chelsea around 89! I just couldn't stand (quite literally in the shed) being surrounded by ignorant, hypocritical racists. The abuse "our" black players got was sickening. My last game at SB was against Liverpool. They needed 2 win 2 b champions. Dalglish scored, they won & I saw some little kid in a Liverpool shirt with his dad, in amongst the Chelsea fans get pissed on. Not 4 me.
The last time I saw Billy was at Ronnie Scot's,in London, it was rammed and we sat and stood in rapture. Got chatting to the guy next to me, turned out to be Pat Nevin ? Loved the Associates, Party Fears is in my top ten, forever. Thanks for putting this here.
