they don't say "can i take the next person` they say ``can i take the next person IN LINE` which to anyone who understands english means exactly what it says. CAPICHE ?
Here they say "can I help the person who's next in line?" meaning the next person in the currently existing line.
This problem can be eliminated entirely by using the type of lines like they have at a post office, where everyone waits in one line and whoever is next goes to whichever cashier is open. So if a new cashier comes, that cashier helps the next person in line, who would've been the next person to be helped anyway. Of course, that's probably not feasible in a grocery store...
Hmmm although I act like Justin in the grocery store situation a lot of time - I actually agree with Brad's reasoning. Although, on the photo thing I find it just as easy to walk around a person as walk through the camera line.
I would jump the line, what makes me mad about jumping the line is the guy who makes it there faster then takes 30 mins and the other line has let 4 ppl behind me through, mad at me not the guy i guess.
Camera line it depends where it is. i like to offer to take the picture and run away with the camera then give it back a say ur lucky im not a robber, this should be a lesson learnt dont give your camera away. LOL.

@metalhead00xx Some stores here are like that. Everyone waits in a big line, then the display dings and tells you which cashier to go to.
