Why should your property be ransacked by some goons just because some corporate farmers think by doing so it will keep their fruit unblemished?
It's really not about the fruit on the public side of this checkpoint...its mainly about control and taking inventory and gathering data about black (free) market goods entering into that oppressive tax hole called California.
I was also told by Agent Brier that they also snitch to other governmental agencies. For instance in you have a pet alligator and they are not allowed in California they call the agency that handle "exotic" pets and report you.

We had this encounter at the Winterhaven fruit inspection station (roadblock) checkpoint on the California Arizona border.

Funny, there's no way to know where a food item comes from unless it's labeled. If I just bought a bag out of CA, there's no way they would now it came from there unless there is a sticker on it that is a federal seal printed and placed by state authorities on all foods and implemented into legislation to require it. Or maybe some form of official 'seal' they would brand an orange with like a cattle.
As a former truck driver and former CA resident, I got waved by and never inspected... Ever.
