Listen to Walter Cronkite and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir tell the story of the 1914 WWI Christmas truce miracle between the British and Germans at Flanders Field. For length, I had to cut out the beginning of the story

This is found on the "Silent Night" DVD and can be purchased at Deseret Book at http://deseretbook.com/store/product/4609269

  • Boy, this video really gives one many reasons to cry. First of all, the quiet, contemplative atmosphere in which the performance takes place. Secondly, the songs themselves. I'm German and when the other singer "replied" to the first singer with the German lyrics of "Silent Night", I lost it. And last but not least: The soothing, kind voice of Walter Cronkite. Now we're heading into the first Christmas season in which this is a voice of the past. I'm extremely sad that he isn't among us anymore.

  • I love Jesus Christ

  • great video. 4:37, did anyone else notice that is the guy from singles ward and the british guy from saints and soldiers?? lol

  • The "Mery christmas" spirit won in those days... Salute to the soldiers on both sides, They had the power, the spirit, to refuse all of the violence of their authorities at the Mary Christmas Eve 1914.

    Salute!

  • Even more special now that Walter is on the other side...

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I was on here, looking for Silent Night videos to share with my Family. My 3x Great Grandfather was Franz Gruber. We still have the (very) old Family Bible to read, but to hear the song in this context is amazing. Thank You.
