  • Respect, Mr. BB&S, this is the fifth tune from your channel that I've sampled, and they have all killed. Thanks.

  • @GregDiablo I appreciate that, thank you. Hope you continue to enjoy.

  • Hey now! :-D This was super cool and funky!

I've never heard it done quite this way before, nor have I heard of Melvin. What is that "special effect?" :-)

  • Well, according to the liner notes, between his upright and the amplifier are three different effects: First, his signal is fed into what I think is a Maestro G-2 Rhythm 'n' Sound (someone has a youtube video of the Maestro G-1 to give you an idea of one of these units in action), then into a Maestro boomerang, and then finally into one of those old echoplex machines...

  • What's interesting about the echoplex, from what I understand, is that the echo was created by an actual tape reel in the device itself, where the distance between the play and record heads determined the duration.

  • @bugstrut Sorry, bugstrut; I can see how I was somewhat ambiguous with the use of the verb "sample". However, I was using the old school meaning, and I just played it on youtube.

  • @GregDiablo Do you sample straight from Youtube, or do you buy the vinyl version?

  • I feel like playin' the cold sweat break on my drums now...

  • the tune and the album also is great!

  • @maclennan73 One thing I have learned: NEVER sell a record you that you know is cool. :) nless you'e starving of course!

  • I had this experimental masterpiece on vinyl, but stupidly sold it!

  • Fantastic record from the long time Eddie Harris Bass Player. One record that everyone picks up alone for the cover. One look at the title and the Cover art and you know what you can expect. Dope.

  • YEP! Thank you.... my skull gets it!
