You are almost right Yellowbull. In a v the 12 cylinders are divided in to two banks of 6 that are in a row. In a w12 the cylinders are still divided 6 and 6 but instead of in a row they are staggered in a w like formation. The advantage of this is you get a significantly shorter engine block freeing up more passenger room.
