Devulboy1 and WorldNews92: ABC Britain didn't become BBC One (which was around since 1928)... you're thinking of ABC1, and that was shut down in 2007 due to low viewer ratings, and its channel spot became Playhouse Disney +1 (a one-hour-delayed/timeshifted channel for Playhouse Disney UK). You both are completely right on NBC Europe, however... though CBS will be airing several networks in England under the CBS banner (like CBS Action).
Ironically, NBC Europe could not show enough American primetime programming, because it couldn't afford the rights for each individual European country.
Nor did ABC Britain (currently BBCone) and CBS international (another satellite TV failure). Europeans and other countries get enough US-made movies, TV shows and cartoons, so the concept of broadcasting the 3 or 4 major TV networks worldwide is a "no-brainer". There was an anti-American backlash recently over the War in Iraq and political differences between the "big blue state" of the E.U. with that of the Bush administration in the U.S. Too bad it hadn't helped NBC Europe get an audience. +
