Enka singer Moriyama Aiko singing a part of the Enka (traditional Japanese ballad) song "Yoitomake no Uta".

I'm really sorry about the translation, I did my best but, first it's really hard to translate Japanese songs in general, and moreover Enka songs, and second, English is not my mother tongue... It's literal translation so that you can get the meaning of the song.

Originally sung by Akihiro Miwa, "Yoitomake no Uta" (Day laborers' song) is a very famous song, which depicts workers who supported Japan at its (postwar) foundation.
The song describes the harshness of physical labor, gratitude to one's parent and anger toward occupational discrimination. The narrator, though unnamed in the lyrics, learns many lessons watching his mother work.

  • Fantastic! THANK YOU for the translation, really appreciate it.

  • THANKS FOR THE TRANSLATION!

    This song is so touching.

And I'm amazed, you said you translated the Japanese to the best of your ability into English (which is not your first language). So, neither Japanese and English are your first language yet you are so good at both!

  • She has the quality, rich color full and beautiful voice. I wish she become a great singer someday like Tiaki Naomi and Miyuki Fukushima. Greeting from USA.
