okay, so, in the interest of honesty and reality, no more fade ins/outs. however, there may be more dutch angles.

also, i am going to try to just put up first takes, which means i may mess up lyrics or i might [read: certainly will] play wrong chords occasionally. BUT you will get a pretty good idea of what i am actually like, and what i sound like live. now, lyrics:

there's a man, he never believed in ghosts,
but he put his faith in spirits every night.
he would raise his glass, he'd raise a toast,
singing 'here's to nothing ever going right.'
he'd say 'life has a way of taking what is left
and making it all go wrong.
believing only leaves you alone and bereft
and singing the same goddamned songs.'

and the piano's gone out of tune again,
but he never knew those songs anyway.
so he'll fight the darkness, he'll fight the rain,
to dance on st. vitus day.

there's a girl, she was never good with words.
every phrase she put together seemed to lack
all in the love songs she'd heard
and scrawled across her her lovers' backs.
no matter how many she brought home
and no matter how many were in her bed,
there was never quite enough room
to get down all that had to be said.

and the piano's gone out of tune again,
but she forgot all those words anyway.
tonight she'll fight the darkness, tonight she'll fight her pain,
and she'll dance on st. vitus day.

the piano's gone out of tune again,
but that's always fit our voices better anway.
so tonight we'll find everyone who can't forget their pain
and dance on st. vitus day.

the piano's gone out of tune again,
but no one knew how to play the damned thing anyway.
so we'll laugh, and we'll sing; we'll make love in the rain,
and we'll dance on st. vitus day.

for those of you in rochester who are not lauren o'connell, i am playing with the aforementioned lauren o'connell at suny brockport on march 26th. jitterbugs cafe, in the seymour student union. it begins at eight pm, is free, and will also feature tim avery and giovanna galindo. good times will be had. i promise.
