I've never played a 4 string mandolin but the mandobird has a wider neck than my fender elec mandolin and I like the extra room for my fingers. I would recommend the mandobird, it's inexpensive and well built.

It's all stock right out of the box. I'm playing it through a Boss ME 50 multi effect and a Marshall acoustic amp
