The Moor Lights formed in England as a rock project. Raymond Lee (real last name Li; his father was from Hong Kong and married an English woman. Raymond changed his last name's spelling so as not to be confused with another Chinese guitarist of the same last name in a London based band) and vocalist Edward Thatcher were long time friends and had played in many local bands through the years. They eventually decided to put together their own act after writing enough material for a full length album.

They searched abroad for members to complete their band, finding a bassist in Madrid. Maria Cortes had long been looking to be part of a band and her influences were what the founders were looking for. Edward was convinced that she joined because she was smitten by him (which isn't the truth). The scrappy drummer, Simon McAuley, contacted the band from his home in Dublin. An audition was made and the band loved his punk influenced style. He said he would join on one condition; if anyone made a Home Alone reference, he had the right to punch them.

The name of the band was created when on a drive through rural England where Edward had seen unidentified flickers of light out on the moors.

The band was given a major label deal based on their 4 song demo alone.

"Spaceman" is from the band's debut album, Sunshine. Music by Raymond and Maria. Lyrics by Raymond and Edward. This video was recorded during a concert at the Penfold Dome in London, England. "Spaceman" came together as an attempt to channel one of Raymond Lee's favorite artists: David Bowie.

  • Yes channeling David Bowie for the win! But Bowie's still alive so it probably didn't work
