_`The Only Exception; e i g h t {Strange Encounter Sequel}

Nick bounced Nathan lightly on his lap as he waited for the doctor to tell him what was wrong with Miley.

"Dada, Dada, Dada, Dada, Dada!" Nathan babbled, giggling at Nick. Nick chuckled and tried to push the bad thoughts in the back of his mind.

"You're going to have to learn to say something else, bud," Nick joked, giving Nathan a handful of cheerios, which he managed to spill to all over the floor. The doctor came out, he met Nick halfway.

"Is she okay?" Nick asked, trying to contain his squirming baby.

"The whole, unable to have kids thing, had made her insecure and depressed. She so desperately wanted to have kids again; she actually thought she was pregnant. She's not and she's okay, but we have a medication for her to take. It'll help with the depression. She could very well get pregnant again, though. The ovaries seem to be healing quite nicely."

"Thank you, doctor. Can I go see her?"

"Yes. Room A16."

Nick passed all the curtains and then opened A16's. He saw Miley laying on the bed, just an IV and a heart monitor plugged up to her. He set Nathan on her bed next to her. She turned to him, tears running down her cheeks.

"I'm sorry," she said, smoothing a hand over Nathan's hair.

"It's okay, Miley," Nick replied, taking her hand.

"I feel so bad, Nick. I went completely psychotic on you and I yelled. Do you hate me?" She asked, holding in a sob.

Nick sighed and lifted Nathan. He got into the bed with her, setting Nathan between them. "Miley, I could never ever hate you. I'm not mad at you either. Stop blaming yourself for everything," he whispered, kissing her forehead.

Miley sniffed and cuddled closer to him as they watched Nathan who was sitting on Nick's stomach. "Dada," he babbled.

Miley giggled and turned to look up at Nick. "So you still love me?"

"Of course. I actually have some good news."

"And what's that?"

"They said that you might be able to have kids again," he told her, a smile painting across her face. Miley's jaw dropped, but it slowly turned into a smile.

"Are you kidding? Oh my God!" she exclaimed.

Nick laughed and kissed her, cupping her cheek in his hand.

Miley pulled away slowly, teasing him. "Save some for later."

Demi placed a hand on her stomach as Joe sat down on the couch. "I swear I'm getting bigger every day," Demi said, sighing.

Joe chuckled. "Well, babe, you're pregnant with twins. You're going to be a little bit bigger than every other pregnant woman."

Demi pursed her lips, considering this. She shrugged before she looked at Joe and smiled. "I'm happy."

Joe chuckled once again, putting an arm around her. "Well, so am I. I love you."

Demi sighed and cuddled into him, closing her eyes. "I love you too."
