What is interesting to me is that while most of the worlds population will never set foot on the Ohio University real-life campus, hundreds well, uh, millions could potentially attend and learn virtually in Second Life. Now that's what I call Outreach!

The SL idea is fascinating to say the least and has a ton very beneficial outcomes for distance learners, people who are unable to make it to the campus, and also students that do attend class on campus. It concerns me that it is another bit of technology that removes face to face interaction however. Also it really creates a need for Student Affairs practitioners to see how SA services will translate to the virtual campus. Is there something that will be lost in translation?

yes content of second life is owned and created by its member so for a designer might have been paid to build that campus. and that campus might make money buy renting out its exhibition space.
