With all of our society's wealth, it's hard to understand why Canada still has poor single mothers worrying about how to feed their children, homeless people on the streets and entire First Nation communities living below the poverty line, and as the world is shrinking nations and communities once completely unknown to become part of the new definition of "Us".

Our sense of community must expand, the children of Southern Afghanistan are the children of our own community as surely as those on the Downtown East Side or in Point Grey.

We need a Canadian notion of civil society that looks at not only our rights as citizens, but also our obligations - not just in Vancouver or even Canada, but as citizens of our larger world.

  • Fight apathy

    or don't

  • CANADIANS can fight apathy and protest the murder of poor afghan children by Canadian troops.

  • PART II:

Sorry ran out of room. But yes, under NATO and UN occupation Afghanistan has become a prominent country for the production of Opium. How many Canadians understand that the Taliban halted the production of Opium, but under western occupation is now the worlds leader in opium production. Apathy is a sign that you support the injustices of war. Use your voice, because if you don't, people will use it for you, and not in a way you intend or wish to be heard.

  • I worked with a 18 year old Afghan refugee. Her perspective is that of gratitude because of all the occupying countries Canada has done more for Afghanistan than the previous countries. However we have to ensure that Canadian INTERESTS in foreign policy is our driving force, not those of NATO or the UN.

Instead of importing soldiers, we should import infrastructure and design. Beginning with CLEAN water and working from there up. Also Canadians need to inform themselves about Afghanistan.

  • great message.

but again the amount of views shows how much people care :(

  • Almost cried looking at this video...Damn we are so brutal
