2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS - Demonstration of Launch Control

The new 2008 Cobalt SS has some sophisticated technology that allows the driver to launch the vehicle with a pre-programmed amount of wheelspin. Using the competitive mode on the traction control, you plant the throttle, the engine revs at 5,100 RPM and you let the clutch up as normal. Engineers swear this the the fastest way to take off. Best feature, driving the car like this doesn't void the warranty!

that wasnt a "no lift shfit"...u can hear the driver let their foot off the gas when the shift between gears

Oh, but it was. The gas pedal is on the floor, the computer manages the throttle to optimize the shift point. When you are in the competition mode, you are telling the computer that if you keep the throttle nailed to the floor, that it is should manage the throttle. Really cool.

well that sucks cuz how do you power shift (or otherwise known as "open throttle shift"--its not a true open throttle shift if the rpms dont fly up...you can hear them drop)...the RPMs dont fly up like if you were powershifting a regular car....that kinda sucks...too much technology is going into these cars to help guys that dont know how to drive...launch control is taking the skill right out of it...getting your car to launch is most of the battle!

It would be, but I can tell you one thing. Before I bought my 2008 cobalt ss I owned an SRT-4 Neon and I can tell you from experience that one, this car is much quicker than it was and two, my fuel economy is way fucking better now. I can easily stretch 370-390 klicks versus 240-290 klicks per tank with the SRT. My buddy has a mazdaspeed and his gas consumption is killer. If you want a good track car buy a supra or something RWD with over 300HP stock and build that.
