A 90 foot commercial fishing vessel Jason & Danielle of Montauk, NY collided with the Middle Thorofare Bridge at around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug 20.

According to the Coast Guard the vessel lost its propulsion system and hit the fendering system of the bridge becoming wedged under the bridge. The Coast Guard responded to the scene from station Cape May however the boats Captain refused any assistance, a Coast Guard spokesperson said.

The vessel eventually freed itself under its own power. The vessel was then escorted by the Coast Guard to Lunds Marina where the vessel was boarded by the Coast Guard and inspected, the spokesperson said.

The county engineer was called to the scene to inspect the bridge that did sustain some damage.

No injuries were reported. The Coast Guard is investigating.
