Live performance of Providence based new wave band The Mundanes on a Boston television station in 1981. Besides being an insanely catchy tune, the keyboard player for this band is John Linnell, later of They Might Be Giants. By the way, the talking head seen for a split second at the end of the video is legendary WBCN DJ Mark Parenteau.

  • So where did this come from?

  • I transferred it from a VHS tape I had recorded from the original broadcast in '81. It was on a show called Boston: Live on Channel 68, out of Boston. They had every local band of the day playing live on this show, which was on daily. There are two other songs by The Mundanes that they aired-"Empty Boulevards" and "Funnier Than Love". I do have the other two videos and will post them soon!

  • ...John Linnell's hair, it's so...blonde. O_O

  • John Linnell has....blonde hair....O.o I only bleach my hair blonde for purple hair dye.

  • Hey, if the woman wanted to go for the Rocky Horror Picture Show look, at least she could have TRIED a little harder to work on "Dr. Frank N. Furter," and worn a corset, ripped fishnet stockings, and metallic fleck heels. Right now, she looks like Tim Curry trying to dress like Cassandra Petersen as "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark," without exposing cleavage.

  • @workjobb They were from Providence, RI and I saw them at Brown U. They opened for the B 52S

  • Hey.... I have this record! Always wondered what they looked like!

  • Oh yeah ...I remember. This was in the days before clubs started to allow "jam bands" to stink up their stages. I loath jam bands. Jam bands, with the front man, armed with a music stand.

    Music stands....that's just not right.

  • @valerie2776

    hahaha, I found it hilarious.

  • Workjobb please post Funnier Than Love! Thanks as I never thought I would see the band again. Didn't Andrews write for the Simpsons? Very talented group of folks.

  • Went to NYC, John the keyboard player made it big with They Might Be Giants. Marsha the front woman became a vice president with a big toy company in Calif. The rest; I'd be interested to know...

  • I always thought he was blonde. Never knew he dyed his hair. Cool song though. Wonder what happened to them?
