  • It did cost alot to restore its rj corman hes a millionare

  • Beautifully restored....nice machine

  • Awesome loco. WOW

  • @psycotria BTW, when I say,'I also doubt that we have them "all over the place." ,' i mean " In good enough condition to make such undertakings financial sense."

Why spend $2MIL, unless the goal is to have a museum piece. In the case of Chinese locos, they are ready to go back to work for 10 more years.

  • Looks like a copy of a Russian design... This locomotive is very similar to the Russian L-5049.

  • not much really would have to be done to bring a QJ "2-10-2" or a SY " 2-8-2" up to FRA standards the Engine's were built up until the 90's using American designs and standards there almost the same as many engines built in the USA mechanically but ascetically they look a bit different. in my opinion I enjoy seeing steam run in any form from any country right now china is scraping many of these and we should preserve engines from china " the rest of the world" beside American locomotives.

  • @Trailltrader Because this one was already working?

  • Uh, what is the story behind this steam engine? We've got steam engines all over the place- why not take a non-working one, fix it, and make it run instead of getting a Chinese one? I'm just curious about the story behind the story- does anyone know?

  • Boiler rebuild, and somehow they must have had an FRA inspection done.

  • Not sure about the bell. The QJ's in China had Whistles, they just used the horns most of the time. The couplers are the same in China as here in North America.
