I actually had the YLOD problem, but I uploaded this anyways to show you how to replace your hard drive. I created a tutorial for installing your hard drive on my website at: http://gameweblinks.com/modules.php?name=FAQ&myfaq=yes&id_cat=3&c... .

The YLOD (Yellow Light Of Death) problem on the PS3 is caused when you have almost no contact between your PS3 CPU/GPU and your cooling unit via "Thermal grease". I later took my PS3 apart and fixed it myself. I recorded a video and I will link to it as well in this video, so you can have a new hard drive, and fix your YLOD, lol.

This YLOD problem for PS3, is the same reason Xbox 360 overheats. Note: I had to vacuum alot of dust from the vent holes in my PS3, and that might have been the cause of my system using up the Thermal Grease and overheating. If your system can't breathe, it will suffocate and die. I will now regularly vacuum my vent holes on my PS3 and 360 if I ever get one.

I fixed it myself ; )

  • I fixed mine with the oven bake method last time my ps3 died and i've fixed it 4 times before with a heatgun but my brother recently talked to a sony representative and he said that the ylod isn't an overheating problem. The problem is the hard drive so if you replace your hard drive, you shouldn't get that problem anymore.

  • @Trivium4266 There are 2 different types of YLOD. One with the hard drive, and one with the overheating. I had the one related to the over heating, because I replaced the hard drive, and still got YLOD. You can do it, but it it YLODs again, it was the over heating issue.

  • Well dumbass, Nice TV, and know wonder your ps3 died.. look where u have... in the user manual (which none of us read, but you clearly should) there is suppost to be 4 to 6 inches of space between the system and the wall.. it IS NOT to be enclosed in an entertainment stand... your really dumb, and clearly by the "Epic Fail" you have no Idea what the hell you are doing!...Oh and way to trash your system Ass!

  • @djcripple2007 lol... did you read my response to graverocks1234? My PS3 is fine now, I fixed my YLOD, and it hasn't come back, and its still in the same spot....

  • @djcripple2007 Damn... you are not a happy person, lol.
