I don't think he cut her leg. I believe he slit her throat. That's what it looked like and I think that's what Lithgow said he did in a recent interview.

It's sad that Rita - a real fighter - survived an ass like Paul, but died because she was with "good guy" Dexter...

I understand they have to kill off some characters, to make the show "better" but why an innocent woman like Rita..!
