Also, various religious traditions say it takes many reincarnations to achieve the liberation to be "at one" with everything, whereas from what you say, this should just be automatic once the consciousness is not confined and focussed by the brain.

Wouldn't this suggest though that a person leaving their body during and NDE would immediately feel cosmic consciousness? How is it that in fact they still seem to be concentrated in a place and time, and have a certain view point etc (eg. hovering above their body)?

once you experience the universal identity you will never be the same. i don't think it's something that can be explained... Infinity can only be felt, can only be experienced. I think through experience alone this is the way to truly understand that your brain does indeed edit out non local infinity. How do you explain the color pink to a blind man who has never seen? How do you explain a scale in the key of B minor to a def man who has never heard? Comprehension doesn't equal experience
