Army-Navy Screen Magazine presents a line up of stars from the Armed Forces Radio Service program "Command Performance" to entertain the troops. Filmed at Camp Roberts, California this is part of one episode.

It's November 13th, 1943, possibly the height of World War II, and Bob Hope and company are out to please. What a performance they deliver!

Bob kicks off the show with some stand-up comedy and then introduces Betty Hutton who sings "Murder, He Says." Next up is Lana Turner who does a sizzling routine with Bob. To wrap up the show is a very young Judy Garland singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow."

This is an incredible show and the troops absolutely love it.

  • awesome i had no idea judy garland was an american forces sweetheart until now, fantastic

  • @djmusicjac Yes and she was great. My favorite here though is Betty Hutton in Part 1. She just sang her little heart out in "He Says Murder He Says." What a performer! -Michael

  • Possibly the best performance of this song. It takes on more significance. You know some of the boys listening to this never made over the rainbow and back home.

  • @zamusicza I know. I'm glad they were able to enjoy this performance.

  • Wonderful stuff. Bob could really deliver a line! And there has never been a warmer voice than Judy Garland's...

  • Bob, like his friend Jack Benny, was a master of timing. I thought all of the ladies did a great job as well. The troops really loved this!

  • @hwy61media Ive always wondered why judy "escaped" so quickly. she just....left rt after Over the Rainbow. She slightly ran off. IDK maybe she was supposed to. Still love her, nothing wld ever change that.

  • @hwy61media all those clips should be in a museum, a radio show too to keep the ww2 songs alive and releases of CDs. I love this music, not everyone likes commercial music. Young people like this music too, awesome

  • You are right, we don't.
