I mean does the machine get very hot, and suffer a significantly shorter life expectancy?

no input mixing is when you feedback an effect back into itself. It usually produces a tone for all filters are delay lines. It looks like hes using a circuit bent calculator as a visualizer... but i dont know, thats just a guess.
