Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng was at the Department of Meteorology, Bayan Lepas, Penang briefing reporters that the recent tsunami warning has been lifted and there was no cause for concern as Penang is safe.

A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.6 struck off the city of Padang on the coast of Indonesias Sumatra island on Wednesday, triggering a tsunami warning and witness reports of house damage and fires.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii issued a tsunami watch for Indonesia, Malaysia, India and Thailand. The tsunami alert was canceled after no significant waves were generated.
