He was implying it was easy for early man to look at the world and conclude it was created/designed because early man didn't have an answer for why we were here. The watch was a sort of metaphore, showing that an incredible piece of machinery so complex implied a watchmaker, so its easy for us to understand early mans point in history to make the "God" conclusion. But as of course we know now it was evolution via natural selection.

My condolence to you Dr Sagan. Your work will be missed. I am studying biology in science all because of you. I want to make contribution of my own towards science.

I've learned so much from Sagan. He wanted to teach and show people the Cosmos and how it works and did it with style and class.
