  • Very nice boat. Are the sails flat cut or are they curved at the spars ?

  • They are cut flat but there is substantial curvature at the luff and foot to compensate for the bendy bamboo spars.

  • It would need some modifications to be a voyaging canoe. I would want rudders and a shelter on the windward deck.

A lee pod or safety ama would allow singlehanding.

  • Yes, the hull is asymmetric. It's about twice as wide on the ama side as the leeward side, but the keel is straight.

  • te wa e lukkun emman!

  • What was the name of this song? Its very pretty

  • Very nice, That stand up and steer position looks fun, would like to try and use it on my design.

  • I'd love to know the name of the song being played, as it fits so well with the sailing.......

  • Ok I finished the job but the canoe virus is still in my body. Great music, too! Who is it?

    All the best from Berlin

  • hi gary: you build a real beauty! i stumbled over the proa canoes while i was working for an advertising agency. I had to design a brochure and the theme was sailing. while i waqs researching i found traditional seacards, the one made out of branches and i thought wow! whose the artist? than i found out who it was and got into the canoe thing. From this moment on I didnt work anymore. I was just reading your website and watching canoe vids on youtube.

  • Amazing looking proa!

I am planning to build myself a proa, as for me they are the pinnacle in simple sailboats. I was wondering whether in your opinion it would be possible to increase the distance between the supports for the outrigger, so on low wind days I could also use it as a conventional canoe? such as the Ulua design on your website, also would it be possible to ommit the keel, or would it still be needed , if so how long would you suggest?
