Memba tribe of Arunachal Pradesh inhabit Mechuka and follow the Mahayana sect of Buddhism. They celebrate the Losar festival one month ahead of other tribes like the Monpas. Losar (lo=year; sar=new) is a Tibetan word for new year. This year (2009), Losar was celebrated at Mechuka on February 5.
