This experiment was to create thrust with, in a "coanda effect" style. On top of that disc, a jet of air is creating lower airpressure. The ambient airpressure under the disc is providing the thrust (and not a ground effect).

  • Coanda method takes up too much space. xcopter is more practical.

  • The coanda method does us a lot of surface, and that has weight, and drag. But I wouldn't say an Xcopter (a helicopter that can fix its rotor to become a wing) is more practical. The coanda method is a very simple and safe construction. If you look at the construction and aerodynamics of a helicopter, it's hard to believe it will fly, especially forward flight seems impossible (if you never saw it for real). But it flies.

  • You may want to place a gyroscopic weight inside being spun in the reverse direction as the blower fan as a counter balance to the rotation that the frame would get from the motor the blower is run on. For stability purposes.
