  • very beautiful singing - but my question is about the picture used in the video? what is it, where is it from? and is the woman holding a FERRET?!

  • It's "Lady with Ermine" by Da Vinci :).

  • THIS is what they meant when I would be coached on Mozart arias and they said "sing it more cleanly, don't use portamenti!"

Arleen has a sweet, young, smaller sound, but the mastery of the musicality and technical flair are all there. And it is so honest, how could anyone criticize?

Damrau does not have a light sweet voice as this, the only similarity is that she can sing coloratura and has a range well above the staff. That's about it - Damrau is a powerhouse performer, Auger a musician.

  • The sheer beauty, purity and warmth of this voice. She makes the difficult seem so easy and natural. Delightful!

  • A the 2:16 mark, those are impressive upward chromatics.

  • amazing technique and styie, the best rendition of this aria, in-tune like a violin, with perfect articulation of the words, 'it's been my favourite for 20 years and I still don't change my mind

  • I keep telling all my singer friends, colleagues, students, etc, that the consonant goes on the NEW NOTE, not somewhere in between. This is a perfect example, even though she's singing in German, the most difficult language in which to sing truly legato. I first heard her live in Austria singing Schöhheit in Handel's Triumph of Time and Truth when I was a student at AIMS in Graz. A great artist and greatly missed.

  • what is the orchestra that is playing?

  • @MrEriugena I had heard Elisabeth Schwarzkopf at Salzburger Festspiele singing Hugo Wolf "Italienische Reise", and Furtwängler on Piano. till this time Hugo Wolf was not loved by myself, but this was the top of Liedgesang. E.Schwk. was THE TOP in this musik. Nobody could do this better. I am saying this not only because of my personality friendship to El.Schwk., I am trieing to be objectiv,

but, for me, nobody will bring Hugo Wolf better than Elisabeth Schwarzkopf at this time.

  • This is superb. I wish I could have seen her perform this live. There are some lovely performances on YouTube but I haven't heard any of them top Arleen's singing. Thank you so much, Arleen. We miss you.

  • Just listen to Arleen Auger's Love songs(youtube) with O del mio amato ben and Azuleo(Brazilian) , this lady could sing every style. Many don't know how many CD's she made, the number is unbelievable (far over 100, maybe even towards 140), which indicates that her qualities were recognized and many a collegue will mention Auger for her musicianship. Her versions are often a standard.

  • It is amazing how many have discovered Arleen Auger(1939-1993) after her early death.Just as amazing that she is appreciated more and more. The biggest compliment for this musician under the singers, as she was fully dedicated to the music,no stardom at all. What a luck I saw her on stage 2 yrs before she passed away.Still in splendid form.A stunning singer and a lovely person
