I took this video of Julian (then aged 6) when I returned to Belize earlier this year. Unfortunately, my memory card ran out before he made it to 100 but just see the determination on his face and in his voice to learn. From being hardly able to construct a simple sentence when I met him in June 2007, to learning alphabet from A-Z and numbers 1-100, Julian is a fine example of how just a little effort directed in the right place can make a huge difference in the life of someone in need. I'm not seeking credit or praise for this, and neither would Frankie who was my teaching partner in the village, but am uploading with a slight hope that people see developing nations are not a lost cause. They need, want, deserve and appreciate our help in whatever form it comes. So whilst I'm unable to support such people directly by being their with them, I'm supporting ActionAid, who work in the communities that need it most, helping them to help themselves. If you can't change something for the better by yourself, at least help someone else who can do it for you. www.stesmith.co.uk
